1) Crystal Towers: housing authority says it is not for sale
After residents raised alarms about rumors of a sale and what it could mean for longtime tenants, Winston-Salem’s housing authority says Crystal Towers is not currently on the market. Leadership said operations will continue as usual while the agency looks for a nonprofit partner to help evaluate a possible redevelopment path for the aging downtown building.
Residents and advocates have pushed for clearer commitments around relocation, repairs, and the ability to return if major work happens. The authority says it’s assembling an advisory committee that includes residents and local stakeholders to review proposals and improve transparency.
2) City Council approves a new Shaffner Park cell tower
Winston-Salem City Council unanimously approved a 120-foot communications tower planned for Shaffner Park in the West Ward. The project is aimed at improving service in known coverage dead zones, with the tower designed to be camouflaged to blend in with the park setting.
The company building the infrastructure will lease the land from the city, and the tower site is expected to be fenced off near a wooded area. A construction start date has not been announced.
