WisDOT awards $5.21 million contract for WIS 27 resurfacing in the Town of Hayward

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has awarded a $5.21 million contract to resurface WIS 27 in the Town of Hayward, giving Monarch Paving Co. of Amery responsibility for the project.

WisDOT announced the contract on June 19, 2026. The work is planned for a section of WIS 27 in Sawyer County, with project limits running from West Boylan Road north of Sand Lake to a point 700 feet north of West Carol Drive.

Project area

The resurfacing will take place in the Town of Hayward. The project area is along a highway used by Hayward-area residents, commuters, businesses and visitors traveling through the community.

Hayward is also the Sawyer County seat, and the county courthouse and county government offices are located there. That makes the WIS 27 corridor an important connection for people traveling to local services, businesses and other destinations in the area.

The listed limits identify a specific section of the highway in the town. They do not describe resurfacing work across the entire City of Hayward.

Construction information and traffic effects

WisDOT said the project will include a construction-information meeting. The department also directed the public to transportation-news and improvement updates for additional information as the project moves forward.
