Worcester cooling centers open Tue/Wed as Heat Advisory runs July 14–15

The City of Worcester is opening three cooling centers for residents on Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday, July 15, as high temperatures are expected during the same National Weather Service Heat Advisory window. The city says each facility will have supplies of water available for distribution.

The National Weather Service lists the Heat Advisory in effect from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 (EDT).

• Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St. — 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Worcester Public Library (Main Branch), 3 Salem Sq. — 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• YMCA of Central Massachusetts, 766 Main St. — 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Water, accessibility, and getting there via WRTA

The city says all three cooling centers are accessible via the Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA), and that WRTA provides curb-to-curb ADA transportation.

WRTA also notes that its fare-free service is currently in effect through June 2027.

City heat-safety reminders

The City of Worcester reminds residents that prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity can affect the body’s natural cooling systems and increase the risk of illness. The city advises residents to limit strenuous physical activity, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors.
