Rescue closes Memorial Bridge, man pulled from river

Traffic across the Connecticut River was disrupted Thursday when emergency crews shut down Memorial Bridge during a rescue operation. Police said the span connecting Springfield and West Springfield was closed while first responders searched the water below.

Town officials have stressed that most property owners did their part after the storm, but scattered trouble spots remain. The proposal could be acted on later this month, in time for the heart of the winter season.

Road safety forum keeps conversation going

Last month, the town hosted a public forum at Town Hall to gather feedback on traffic calming, crosswalk design, and bike and pedestrian safety. The event, led by Mayor Reichelt with police, fire, public works, and the town engineer, gave residents a chance to talk through specific problem spots and ideas.

Officials say they want to keep that conversation going this winter, using the feedback to guide improvements on streets like Main Street, Piper Road, and key residential cut‑throughs. The discussion ties in closely with the sidewalk snow clearing proposal and broader efforts to make it easier and safer to get around town year‑round, whether you are driving, walking, or biking.
