Springfield Police recruitment open house set for Aug. 6

Prospective police applicants can meet Springfield Police Department personnel and learn about the Massachusetts Civil Service process at an open house Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026.

The session is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Springfield Police Training Division, 50 East Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Massachusetts Civil Service says the open house is intended for people interested in learning more about the process and meeting members of the city department.

Aug. 31 application deadline

The open house comes before the application deadline for the 2026 Municipal Police Officer and MBTA Transit Police Officer Examination. The application period opened June 22, and completed applications must be submitted by Aug. 31, 2026.

The examination is open to entry-level applicants and is used to establish eligible lists for Civil Service municipal police departments and the MBTA Transit Police. The current state schedule lists notices to appear for Sept. 18 and a written examination period running from Oct. 2 through Oct. 10, 2026. The state says the examination period may be extended depending on the number of candidates, with Oct. 2 designated as the original examination date for statutory purposes.

The current examination materials list a $75 processing fee and provide a fee-waiver form. Applicants should review the state instructions to determine whether they qualify for a waiver and to confirm that their application is complete. Civil Service says applicants receive separate confirmation emails for the application and payment, and that both are required for a complete application.

Springfield requirements are separate

Taking or passing the written examination does not guarantee employment or admission to the Springfield Police Academy. The exam is the first step in a longer selection process.
