Springfield state office opens for veterans in four counties
Massachusetts opened a regional veterans-services office at 1550 Main St. in Springfield on Nov. 2, 2026, giving veterans and military families in Hampden, Berkshire, Hampshire and Franklin counties a state-run place to seek in-person help.
The office offers walk-in assistance with veterans benefits, housing resources and mental-health support, among other services. It will also host outreach and educational events.
Staff administer the stateโs HEROS, SAVE and SERVE programs and support state annuity matters and claims to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs through the Executive Office of Veterans Servicesโ National Service Officer team.
Where to get help in Springfield
The state office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors must pass through building security, and the location has no onsite parking.
It does not replace Springfieldโs municipal Veteransโ Services office. The city office remains at City Hall, 36 Court St., Room 101, and offers weekday walk-in hours. Veterans seeking state or regional assistance can visit the new Main Street location; the city office remains a separate local option.
Regional estimates and statewide benefits
The state estimates that about 42,000 veterans live in Western Massachusetts, compared with about 274,000 statewide. The regional figure is roughly 15% of the statewide estimate, calculated from those two numbers. State Rep. Carlos Gonzรกlez said Springfield has nearly 8,000 veterans.
The state also reported that, in fiscal 2026, claimants represented by the Executive Office of Veterans Services accounted for about $554.2 million of the $2.17 billion in annual VA benefits provided to Massachusetts. That is about 25.5%, or roughly one-quarter, calculated from the stateโs figures.
Those figures offer regional and statewide context, not a forecast of how many people will visit the Springfield office. The VA-benefit total is statewide and is not a result attributed to this new location.
