Weather, roads, and getting around

Worcester woke up to another round of messy winter travel. School officials said Worcester Public Schools would open two hours late on Wednesday, March 4, and part-day preschool was canceled. City offices were expected to operate on normal schedules.

For drivers downtown, the city issued a short, targeted parking restriction to help crews widen lanes and clear snowbanks. No parking was allowed from 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, to 7 a.m. Thursday, March 5, on Water Street, Harding Street, and Main Street between Chandler Street and Clark Street.

Public transit riders were also asked to plan for extra time. The regional transit authority posted Wednesday updates noting delays tied to road conditions and a roadway blockage affecting certain lines. Separately, forecasters warned another round late Thursday into Friday could bring icing in Worcester County, with a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and some wet snow possible in parts of the region.

Garden season starts early at Green Hill Park

The city says applications are now live for Green Hill Park’s community garden planting beds. The site includes 124 raised beds in multiple sizes, plus additional ground-level beds and eight accessible raised beds for gardeners using mobility devices. On-site basics like water access, lighting, benches, and storage are included, along with upgraded walkways and nearby accessible parking.

Applications are first-come, first-served through April 3.

Development watch: 6 Claremont Street listing

On the city’s purchasing portal, Worcester posted an update dated March 2 connected to the disposition of 6 Claremont Street. The listing describes a real property sale process with minimum and comparative criteria, and it identifies Worcester Community Housing Resources as the most advantageous proposal offer.
