Olathe Gas Check: Regular Near $3.90, Diesel Near $4.90

Regular gas is higher across longer comparison periods

AAA’s Kansas average for regular gasoline was $3.769 per gallon as of July 29. The statewide average was up 5.7 cents from a week earlier, 24.6 cents from a month earlier and 92.3 cents from a year earlier.

The Olathe station’s listed regular price was about 13 cents above the AAA Kansas average. That difference does not show that fuel costs are higher at every Olathe station, but it illustrates why a statewide average may not match the price a driver sees at a local pump.

Diesel is nearly flat day to day, but higher over time

AAA listed the July 29 Kansas diesel average at $4.829 per gallon. Diesel was down just 0.1 cent from the prior day, but it was up 19.2 cents from a week earlier, 45.4 cents from a month earlier and $1.345 from a year earlier.

The Olathe station’s diesel listing was about 7 cents above the statewide average. The day-to-day change was essentially flat, but the longer comparison windows show that diesel remains substantially higher than it was one week, one month and one year earlier.

What the split may mean locally

For commuters and households, a higher regular-gas trend can put more pressure on weekly transportation budgets. Contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants, service companies and other businesses that rely on vehicles may also need to account for fuel costs when planning routes, setting prices or managing operating expenses.

Diesel is especially important for commercial fleets, work trucks and delivery operations. A nearly unchanged daily price does not mean those costs have eased overall, since the statewide comparisons remain higher than the week-, month- and year-ago figures. Weekend travelers should also compare stations before leaving, especially when one local listing is above the statewide average.

The clearest Olathe snapshot is that one station was listing regular gas just under $3.90 and diesel just under $4.90, while AAA’s Kansas averages were lower and the two fuels were moving differently across the comparison periods.
