Tallahassee Gas Falls to $3.857 While Diesel Edges Up to $5.214
Tallahassee regular gas fell slightly in AAA’s July 31 metro check, while diesel rose. Both fuels remain sharply higher than one month and one year ago.
Regular gasoline prices eased slightly in the Tallahassee metro area on July 31, while diesel moved higher, according to AAA’s latest Florida gas-price check. The split gives drivers a small short-term change in opposite directions, but longer comparisons show that fuel costs remain well above last month and last year.
AAA listed the Tallahassee metro average for regular gasoline at $3.857 per gallon, down 0.9 cents from $3.866 the previous day. Gas was also 2.0 cents below the prior week’s $3.877 average.
Diesel averaged $5.214 per gallon, up 0.4 cents from $5.210 the day before. Compared with the previous week, diesel was up 3.9 cents from $5.175.
Both fuels are much higher than a month ago
The longer-term comparisons remain less favorable for Tallahassee drivers and businesses. Regular gas was 23.4 cents higher than the month-ago average of $3.623 and 89.5 cents above the year-ago average of $2.962.
Diesel showed an even larger increase. The latest average was 60.0 cents above the month-ago figure of $4.614 and $1.573 higher than the year-ago average of $3.641.
That means the daily gas decline should not be treated as evidence of a broad or sustained reversal. Gas is slightly cheaper than it was last week, but remains substantially more expensive than it was in June and July 2025. Diesel is higher across each comparison window listed by AAA.
What the split means locally
For commuters and households, even small daily changes can affect weekly transportation budgets, especially for people driving long distances or making several trips each day. Weekend travelers may also see different prices depending on where they fill up.
The higher diesel average is especially relevant for contractors, delivery drivers, farmers, restaurants, service companies and other operators that depend on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Those higher fuel costs are an expense to watch in planning, although the AAA figures alone do not show whether any particular Tallahassee business has changed its prices or operations.
AAA’s figures are metro averages, not a uniform price at every station. Individual pumps can be higher or lower depending on location, competition, brand, taxes and other factors. Drivers may want to compare nearby stations before filling up, particularly when buying large amounts of fuel.
