Garden Grove marks final National Night Out at current police headquarters

Garden Grove’s Aug. 4 National Night Out was the final time the city plans to hold the annual community event in front of the current police headquarters at 11301 Acacia Parkway, according to the City of Garden Grove.

The event ran from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and brought residents to the headquarters for public-safety demonstrations, appearances by officers and specialized units, and community programs. Its location also marked a transition for the city’s police operations: the department is planned to move into a new public-safety facility in fall 2026.

A final event before the planned move

The city described this year’s National Night Out as the final event held in front of the current headquarters. That designation does not mean the building closed during the event, and the city has not published a firm move-in date.

Instead, the event serves as a public marker for a broader Civic Center redevelopment. The current headquarters has been the setting for the department’s annual community gathering, but the police department is expected to relocate as construction and project work proceed.

The city’s current plan calls for police move-in during fall 2026. The reviewed city materials do not specify the exact date of that move or when demolition of the existing public-safety facility will begin.

What the Civic Center project includes

The Garden Grove Civic Center Revitalization Project’s first phase covers approximately 2.75 acres. It includes a new three-story public-safety facility and a four-level parking structure.

The project is a city-led effort involving the City of Garden Grove, Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate, Clark Construction Group and AC Martin, which the city identified as project partners when the new public-safety facility broke ground in May 2024.

After police move into the new facility, the city says the current public-safety building will be demolished. That planned step will change the Civic Center site beyond the department’s move, opening the way for the project’s next phase.

Park redesign is targeted for fall 2027

Phase II of the revitalization project includes a redesigned Civic Center Park. The city estimates that work will be completed in fall 2027.

The planned park design includes open green space, a memorial grove, a walking trail and an event lawn. Those features are part of the city’s stated redevelopment plan; the available materials do not establish a final completion date beyond the fall 2027 estimate.

For Garden Grove residents, the National Night Out event connected a familiar community gathering place with the next stage of the Civic Center project. The immediate operational milestone is the planned police move in fall 2026. The larger site change will follow through demolition of the old facility and the park redesign targeted for the following fall.
