Canton board to consider $550,000 for Baxter site homes
Canton’s Board of Control is scheduled to consider a proposed $550,000 contract with Habitat for Humanity East Central Ohio to partially fund single-family homes at the former Baxter Elementary site.
The meeting is set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026. The city would use Comprehensive Plan funds from budget years 2026 and 2027 for the housing contract. The agenda does not specify how many homes the funding would support.
Two other actions on the agenda
The board also will consider extending Stark Community Support Network’s deadline to spend $66,200 in Community Development Block Grant funds on facility safety upgrades. The proposed amendment would move the deadline from June 30, 2026, to Dec. 30, 2026.
A separate proposed change order with RMI Cement LLC would add tree-well repairs and replacements to the Fulton Road NW Streetscape Project, bringing the contract amount to $180,000.
All three items are scheduled for consideration; the agenda does not establish whether the board will approve, amend or defer them. The Aug. 11 Board of Control meeting is the next scheduled step.
