Hialeah’s five-member police unit began patrolling city streets on Oct. 19, targeting aggressive and dangerous driving, including speeding and driving under the influence. Mayor Bryan Calvo and police officials introduced the team publicly the next day.
The unit consists of one sergeant and four officers. Hialeah Police had described the team as forthcoming in August; the October introduction marked its move into active patrols. Officials also presented a Corvette seized in an earlier police sting, saying it would be used for outreach and education—not patrol.
The new team should not be confused with Hialeah’s earlier traffic-enforcement grant. A 2024 city resolution authorized up to $98,000 for a separate FY2025 project: $76,000 for officer overtime and $22,000 for speed-measurement devices. That resolution does not establish that the grant funded or authorized this unit.
