Rhode Island voters approved Question 2, authorizing $120 million in general obligation bonds for housing and homeownership. Unofficial Board of Elections returns showed 208,562 votes to approve, or 61.17%, against 132,408 votes to reject, or 38.83%, with all 39 cities and towns reporting.
The bond supports affordable housing through construction, redevelopment, property purchases and infrastructure. At least $25 million is allocated to producing homes for ownership, while up to $10 million may support public housing development. The state voter guide estimates projects will begin by 2028 and be completed between 2029 and 2032.
