Arizona’s Proposition 318, which would expand state restrictions on participation in female school sports, led in unofficial Secretary of State returns Wednesday. The proposal had 1,219,360 yes votes, or 58.90%, and 851,000 no votes, or 41.10%, with results reported from all 15 counties.
The official Legislative Council analysis says the measure would require public and private schools and athletic associations to classify teams by sex as recorded at birth or as coeducational. It would also restrict access to restrooms, locker rooms and showers connected with athletics and expand rights to sue over alleged violations. The statewide figures remain unofficial.
