Democrat Daniel Darris-O'Connor defeated Republican incumbent Marc Lombardo in Massachusetts' 22nd Middlesex House District, flipping the Billerica seat to Democratic control, according to Hearst Television's reporting. The 19-year-old representative-elect will be among the youngest members of the Massachusetts House.
Billerica's unofficial election returns list 8,968 votes for Darris-O'Connor and 8,530 for Lombardo, a margin of 438 votes. Lombardo had held the seat for 16 years, WHDH reported. Darris-O'Connor, a University of Massachusetts Lowell student, is preparing to take office in January; the town's published vote count remains unofficial.
