Warwick schedules National Night Out at Rocky Point State Park for Aug. 4
Warwick’s annual National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Rocky Point State Park, where residents will be able to take part in free family activities and meet police, fire and other public-safety teams.
The City of Warwick is listed as host of the event, which is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. at Rocky Point State Park, 1 Rocky Point Ave. The park is set to open at 3 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
The gathering combines recreation and public-safety outreach, with interactive displays intended to give attendees opportunities to see personnel, equipment and specialized demonstrations in a community setting rather than during an emergency response.
Demonstrations and family activities
Police, fire and public-safety teams are scheduled to staff interactive booths and demonstrations. The listed public-safety programming includes a police K-9 demonstration, a dive-team demonstration and a Jaws-of-Life display.
Families also will have access to bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals, arts and crafts, obstacle courses and a touch-a-truck experience. The event listing schedules food trucks, live music and a DJ as part of the evening program.
Fireworks are planned for dusk, following the earlier activities and demonstrations. The scheduled event hours end at 9 p.m.
Vendor proceeds designated for youth programs
Although admission is free, vendor proceeds are designated to benefit the Warwick Police Athletic League and its youth programs. The arrangement connects the event’s public gathering and public-safety programming with fundraising for youth activities.
The Police Athletic League benefit is the event’s stated financial purpose; the listing does not identify an attendance estimate or a total fundraising goal. It also does not specify how much revenue vendors are expected to generate.
Weather remains a scheduling consideration
Residents planning to attend can enter the park after its 3 p.m. opening, ahead of the 5 p.m. start of the listed program. Organizers have said weather could require the event to be rescheduled, but no alternate date has been announced.
As scheduled, National Night Out will bring together local organizations, families and public-safety personnel at Rocky Point for an evening of activities, demonstrations and the youth-program benefit.
