Lake Oswego-area gas edges up to $4.73; diesel reaches $5.56

Regular gasoline and diesel both moved higher in the latest AAA price check for the Portland-Vancouver market that includes the Lake Oswego area, although each remains below its month-ago level. The July 26, 2026, Portland-Vancouver, Oregon-only metro averages were $4.734 per gallon for regular gas and $5.556 for diesel.

Those are metro averages, not averages from Lake Oswego pumps. Actual prices can vary by station, neighborhood, payment method and time of day.

Regular gas rises from last week

AAA listed regular gasoline at $4.734 per gallon on July 26. That was up 0.3 cents from the previous day and 5.8 cents from the prior week. The metro average was still 17.3 cents below its level one month earlier, but it remained 64.2 cents higher than a year ago.

For drivers filling up several times a week, the short-term increase is noticeable even though the monthly comparison has improved. A 15-gallon fill-up at the latest metro average would cost about $71.01 before any station-specific price difference.

Diesel remains more expensive and farther above last year

Diesel reached $5.556 per gallon in the same AAA table. It rose 1.9 cents from the previous day and 9.5 cents from the prior week. Diesel was 14.8 cents below its month-ago average, but it was $1.029 higher than a year earlier.

At the latest metro averages, diesel cost about 82 cents more per gallon than regular gasoline. That gap matters for contractors, landscapers, delivery operators, service businesses and other employers that use diesel trucks or equipment. It also means diesel users are facing a larger year-over-year increase than gasoline users.

Lake Oswego pump prices can differ sharply

Dated Lake Oswego station listings from Way.com illustrate why the AAA figure should not be treated as a pump-price quote for every location. A July 18 listing showed regular gas at $4.70 at the Shell station at 14951 Bangy Road, while a Chevron at 2 Monroe Parkway was listed at $5.39 for regular gasoline.

Those listings are older than the July 26 AAA metro data and should be treated as examples of local variation, not current station prices. The difference between the two July 18 regular-gas listings was 69 cents per gallon.

What the movement means locally

For commuters and households, the latest increase may put more pressure on weekly transportation budgets, especially for drivers with long work trips or multiple vehicles. Contractors and delivery businesses may need to watch mileage, route planning and fuel surcharges more closely. Restaurants and service companies that depend on deliveries or mobile crews can also feel higher fuel costs indirectly, even when they do not sell fuel themselves.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly data, released July 21, also showed elevated gasoline and diesel prices nationally and across the West Coast. That provides broader market context, but it does not replace the Portland-Vancouver metro measurement or Lake Oswego station-level prices.
