Sunnyvale gas stays in the low-to-mid $4s; diesel remains in mid-$5s
Sunnyvale stations are still showing regular gas in the low-to-mid $4s and diesel in the mid-$5s, below California’s AAA averages.
Sunnyvale drivers checking local pumps can still find regular gasoline in the low-to-mid $4s and diesel in the mid-$5s. The checked Sunnyvale prices run about $4.09 to $4.69 for regular and $5.35 to $5.59 for diesel, which keeps the city well below California’s AAA averages even after a run of higher statewide costs.
That gap matters because fuel costs do not hit every reader the same way. Daily commuters may shave a few dollars off a fill-up by shopping around, but contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants, and other service businesses feel the difference every time a van or truck gets topped off.
California still runs much higher than the U.S.
AAA’s California page puts the statewide average at $6.154 for regular and $7.460 for diesel as of May 10, 2026. Regular is about flat from yesterday, up 5.3 cents from a week ago, and up 23.8 cents from a month ago. Diesel is down 0.7 cents from yesterday and down 4.7 cents from a week ago, though it is still far above year-ago levels.
For a broader benchmark, the national average sits lower at $4.522 for regular and $5.647 for diesel. That still leaves California drivers paying a premium on both grades, even before you factor in how much more diesel-heavy vehicles can burn through in a work week.
Sunnyvale’s price spread is wide enough to reward quick comparison shopping, especially for households and businesses that fuel up more than once a week. If the exact dollar signs shift again by the time you pull in, the local takeaway still holds: Sunnyvale still has prices that can sit roughly $2 below California’s average regular price, and diesel remains expensive enough to matter.
