Arrests After Patrol Car Rammed
Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers arrested two suspects following a vehicle burglary investigation that escalated quickly. An officer responding to a reported break-in encountered suspects in the act. As police attempted to stop the vehicle, it rammed a patrol car before the suspects fled on foot.
Two individuals were taken into custody with help from air support, while a third suspect remains at large. Investigators believe the group may be connected to dozens of vehicle burglaries across the region.
Jewelry Store Burglary Disrupted
Officers also interrupted an attempted burglary at a Sunnyvale jewelry store over the weekend. Police were alerted after reports of a stolen vehicle moving through the El Camino Real area. Shortly after, multiple suspects attempted to force their way into a store using tools, but fled when officers arrived.
No injuries were reported, and police said the suspects did not gain entry before escaping. The incident remains under investigation.
Fatal Crash Shuts Down Highway 101
A pedestrian was killed Monday night in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 101 near the Route 237 interchange. The crash blocked all northbound and southbound lanes for several hours, causing major traffic disruptions before reopening early Tuesday morning.
Authorities are still working to determine which vehicle struck the pedestrian.
Civil Lawsuit Filed Over Police Shooting
In other developments, the family of a teenager fatally shot by Sunnyvale police during a mental health crisis has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit. The suit alleges excessive force and calls for changes in how officers respond to mental health emergencies.
