Anthem Drive at King Road closure extended by two months: Frisco Lakes detours

The City of Frisco says the Anthem Drive closure at King Road has been extended. Posted July 6, 2026, the update keeps the roadway closed longer than the earlier plan and changes how drivers can reach eastbound King Road and access the Frisco Lakes neighborhood.

What’s extended, and why it’s changing

In the News Flash update, the City says the contractor will keep Anthem Drive at King Road closed until new paving is completed—instead of reopening the road and closing it again. Officials estimate the closure will remain in place for an additional two months.

The City attributes the extension to unforeseen underground utility conflicts.

Detours and access changes during the closure

During the closure, the City says:

• Drivers will not be able to enter or exit the Frisco Lakes neighborhood from King Road using Anthem Drive.
• Traffic that normally uses Anthem Drive to reach eastbound King Road will be directed south on Anthem Drive to exit the neighborhood at West Stonebrook Parkway.
• Residents may also travel through the adjacent Villages of Creekwood neighborhood and use Drake Lane to access eastbound King Road.

How this ties to the King Road widening work

This closure is part of the King Road Widening project (Rose Lane to Witt Road). The City describes widening King Road between Witt Road and Anthem Drive from a two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane concrete roadway with a center median.

The City also warns that construction schedules can change and notes that construction depends on weather—rain can cancel most construction activity.

What residents should do now

If you live in, work in, or regularly drive through the Frisco Lakes area, plan an alternate route in advance and use caution in the work zone. The City also links to a closure and detour map PDF and says drivers can use the Waze app to navigate road closures.
