Gaylord Parkway & Ohio Drive changes start July 9 as roundabout work continues
Frisco is starting the next phase of its Ohio Drive and Gaylord Parkway multi-lane roundabout conversion on Thursday, July 9, with a major traffic shift beginning at 9 a.m. The city says the changes will be put in place throughout the day.
Frisco says the switch will move both directions of Ohio Drive onto the west half of the road, while closing Gaylord Parkway east of Ohio Drive—meaning the roadway is effectively closed on both sides of Ohio Drive during this phase. The city expects disruption to last about five months, but cautions that staging and scheduling can change.
What starts Thursday, July 9 at 9 a.m.
According to a Frisco traffic newsflash, the existing road closures near the intersection of Gaylord Parkway and Ohio Drive will be modified on Thursday, July 9, to allow construction to begin on the east half of the new roundabout.
Frisco also notes that, for the past three months, northbound and southbound traffic has shared the east half of Ohio Drive. Beginning Thursday, traffic will shift so both directions use the west half of the road.
Closures to expect: Gaylord Parkway east of Ohio Drive (two-sided Ohio Drive impacts)
Frisco says Gaylord Parkway will be closed east of Ohio Drive, which means the roadway will be closed on both sides of Ohio Drive during this phase.
As part of the continued work-zone restrictions, Frisco says “no left turns” and right-turn-only rules will affect these areas:
- Bald Eagle Lane
- The driveway behind Lowe’s
- Driveways serving apartment complexes south of Gaylord Parkway on both sides of Ohio Drive
The city adds that, during the closures, the Capitol at Stonebriar apartment complex will have no access to or from Ohio Drive. Frisco says traffic heading to the complex must navigate around the closures and approach from the east using Gaylord Parkway.
Detours and navigation: follow the city’s posted routing
Frisco says detour signs are posted and drivers should follow them:
- Gaylord Parkway traffic will not be able to reach Ohio Drive from either direction.
- Drivers will be diverted north to Warren Parkway and routed around the closure using Preston Road or Hillcrest Road.
For northbound Ohio Drive traffic, the city says vehicles will move to the west side of the median at the intersection south of Gaylord Parkway, then return to the normal side of the median at the intersection north of Gaylord Parkway at Bald Eagle Lane.
Frisco also warns that traffic on Ohio Drive will not be able to turn onto Gaylord Parkway and will instead be directed east or west onto Warren Parkway.
No left turns: what the restrictions mean during this stage
Frisco says the earlier work-zone restrictions remain in effect for this phase:
- No left turns will be allowed at the affected intersections.
- All traffic must turn right to enter or exit the associated driveways.
Practically, that means left turns you might normally rely on near Ohio Drive and Gaylord Parkway won’t be possible—so plan to reroute and add extra travel time.
How long this phase could last (and what to watch next)
Frisco says the closures and traffic shift are expected to remain in place for about five months. Separately, the project page describes the overall roundabout conversion as scheduled in phases, with a construction start of March 23, 2026 and an anticipated completion in Q1 2027. The city also notes that construction schedules may change due to weather or other factors.
