Frisco’s Anthem Drive closure extended by utility conflicts, now expected through early September
Anthem Drive at King Road remains closed while crews reconstruct the intersection, extending a key access change for Frisco Lakes residents during August travel and back-to-school planning.
Frisco announced on July 6 that the closure was being extended because of unforeseen underground utility conflicts. Instead of reopening the road and closing it again later, the contractor will keep it closed until new paving is completed, according to the city’s closure notice.
What Frisco Lakes drivers should use
Drivers cannot enter or exit the Frisco Lakes neighborhood from King Road using Anthem Drive while the intersection work continues.
The primary detour directs traffic south on Anthem Drive to leave the neighborhood at West Stonebrook Parkway. Residents may also travel through the adjacent Villages of Creekwood neighborhood and use Drake Lane to reach eastbound King Road.
Drivers should follow posted detour signs, allow additional time for alternate routes and check navigation tools before traveling through the work zone. The city advises motorists to find an alternate route in advance and use caution around construction.
Why the closure matters in August
The closure remains in place as summer travel continues and families prepare for the new school year. The city has not published a measured delay estimate, so the documented consequence for residents is the loss of the normal King Road connection and the need to plan around West Stonebrook Parkway or Drake Lane.
Those who normally use Anthem Drive to reach King Road should not plan on that connection until the closure is removed. Construction conditions can change the timing or traffic setup.
Part of a larger King Road project
The Anthem Drive work is part of the King Road widening project from Rose Lane to approximately 280 feet east of Witt Road. According to the city’s King Road project page, the section between Witt Road and Anthem Drive is being widened from a two-lane asphalt roadway to four concrete lanes with a center median. West of Anthem Drive, King Road is being reconstructed to three lanes with a center two-way left-turn lane.
Westbound King Road remains closed from Witt Road to Rose Lane during the first phase of the project. Westbound drivers are detoured south on Witt Road and west on Stonebrook Parkway, while eastbound traffic has shifted to the north side of the existing pavement.
Construction began in March 2026, and the city estimates the broader King Road project will be complete in the second quarter of 2027. That larger project schedule is separate from the Anthem Drive intersection closure.
Expected reopening window
The city’s July 17 project update says Anthem Drive is expected to remain closed through early September while crews reconstruct the intersection. Early September is an expected window, not a guaranteed reopening date.
Frisco warns that construction schedules may change because of weather and field conditions. Residents should continue following posted detours and checking the city’s traffic updates until the closure is lifted.
