Aurora Gas Prices Span 31 Cents at Checked Stations

Regular gasoline listings differed by 31 cents per gallon among three Aurora stations checked Wednesday, July 29, while diesel prices differed by just one cent. The snapshot shows why drivers and work-truck operators should compare nearby stations rather than rely on a statewide average.

Regular gas shows a 31-cent local spread

The lowest regular-gas listing in the check was $4.189 per gallon at the 7-Eleven on 600 S. Frontenac Street. The highest was $4.499 at the Speedway-listed location at 948 North Farnsworth Avenue. The 7-Eleven at 1202 N. Eola Road listed regular gasoline at $4.489.

That creates a 31-cent spread between the lowest and highest posted prices. For a 15-gallon fill-up, the difference would be about $4.65 before loyalty discounts or other payment-program savings.

Diesel prices were tightly grouped

Diesel listings were much closer together in the same check. The 1202 N. Eola Road station listed diesel at $5.489 per gallon, while both 600 S. Frontenac Street and 948 North Farnsworth Avenue listed diesel at $5.499.

The one-cent difference is small for an individual fill-up, but diesel costs remain important for delivery fleets, contractors, landscapers, service companies and other businesses that use work trucks. These three listings do not establish an official Aurora diesel average.

Illinois prices remain above the national benchmark

AAA’s Illinois price page listed a statewide average of $4.280 for regular gasoline and $5.205 for diesel as of July 28. AAA’s national regular-gas average was $4.099, putting the Illinois figure about 18 cents higher.

Illinois regular gasoline was above its listed averages from the previous day, week, month and year: $4.257, $4.168, $4.144 and $3.374, respectively. Diesel was also above its comparison figures of $5.177 the previous day, $5.033 a week earlier, $5.097 a month earlier and $3.767 a year earlier.

AAA listed the Chicago metro average at $4.383 for regular gasoline and $5.351 for diesel. That regional figure provides context for Aurora but should not be treated as a city-specific average.

What Aurora drivers should watch

For commuters, the local regular-gas spread can add several dollars to a fill-up. For businesses using vans, pickups or diesel vehicles, fuel prices can affect daily operating costs and the price of deliveries or service calls. Household budgets may also feel the difference when prices remain higher than they were a year ago.
