Beachwood’s Citywide Signage Replacement Project Begins in August

Beachwood will begin the first phase of a citywide signage replacement project in August 2026, bringing new signs and visible work to several public facilities across the city.

The project includes City Hall, the Beachwood Community Center, Fire Station No. 1, City Park East and Gorden Gateway Park. The city’s notice describes the work as the first phase of a broader project, so the August work will not replace every city sign at once.

What will change at City Park East

At City Park East, the existing sign will be rotated 90 degrees to improve its visibility from Richmond Road. That change will affect how people approaching the park from Richmond Road see the facility’s sign.

The updated signs will also incorporate design elements from Beachwood’s existing changeable-message sign at Richmond Road and Fairmount Boulevard. Integrated lighting is intended to improve nighttime visibility at the public sites.

The city’s notice does not describe the project as a broader road-safety upgrade. Its stated purpose for the City Park East change is improved visibility from Richmond Road, while the lighting is intended to make the signs easier to see at night.

Funding and project timeline

Beachwood City Council approved funding for the project during its April 20, 2026, meeting. The city then announced on July 13 that the first phase was scheduled to begin in August.

The city says the signs being updated have been in service for more than 30 years. Additional facilities are planned for later phases, but the official notice does not identify a completion date for the first phase.

The notice also does not state the project’s total cost. That leaves the August start and the planned locations as the main confirmed milestones currently available to residents, workers and visitors using the city’s public facilities.

Part of an active public-facility period

Beachwood’s 2025 Fire Department annual report provides separate official context for the timing of the signage work. It says final site work related to Beachwood school construction was planned for summer 2026, indicating that multiple public-facility projects were active in the city during the same period.

For residents and visitors, the immediate practical change will be new or repositioned identification signs at the listed facilities beginning in August. Later phases are planned, but the city has not provided a final completion date in the approved notice.
