Brownsville City Hall modernization set to begin in December

Brownsville City Hall modernization work is scheduled to begin in December 2026, bringing upgrades to the building’s heating and cooling, electrical service and network infrastructure while changing where residents may access some city departments.

The City of Brownsville announced the project on July 8. Construction will be completed in phases, with renovations proceeding one floor at a time rather than shutting down the entire building for one construction period.

Departments will move by phase

Departments affected by each stage of the work will temporarily relocate to the Cummings Middle School campus. The moves will occur as individual floors or areas are affected, so the city’s plan does not call for every department to leave City Hall at the same time.

The city says public services will remain available during construction. For residents who need to visit a department in person, the practical effect will be that the correct service location may change during the project.

Advance notices planned

Before each phase begins, Brownsville plans to provide information about temporary office locations, public access and any operational changes. Those notices are expected to identify where affected departments will serve residents while work moves through the building.

The project is a scheduled future effort, not construction already underway. The next confirmed milestone is the planned start in December 2026, followed by phased relocations as the modernization work advances.
