Chula Vista announced the appointment of Luis Schaar to lead Engineering and Capital Projects, a department that shapes everything from street and utility work to new public facilities. The city highlighted Schaar’s decades of regional infrastructure experience and said his focus will include delivering major capital projects while also keeping aging systems like drainage and underground utilities in good repair.

Bayfront paths get a boost as the Bayshore Bikeway expands

South Bay trail users are being pointed toward the flatter coastal segments south of Chula Vista that connect toward the Silver Strand, as work continues on the wider Bayshore Bikeway loop. The route is being built out as a regional network for biking, running and walking, and it’s drawing attention now because some of the newest, easiest-to-navigate stretches are ideal for families, strollers and leashed dogs.

Walk a Dog Day draws big turnout at the animal care facility

A city-hosted volunteer event at the Animal Care Facility brought hundreds of people out to give shelter dogs extra exercise and social time. City officials said more than 600 volunteers signed up, and the day helped move several dogs into adoptive or foster-to-adopt homes. If you missed it, the city is still encouraging residents to volunteer, foster or donate supplies to support daily care and enrichment.

Youth soccer national training camp wraps in Chula Vista

A national-level youth soccer training camp for players born in 2012 held two February sessions in Chula Vista at the Elite Athlete Training Center. Organizers said the camp combined on-field training with classroom-style sessions, and brought in players from clubs across the country for regional-team competition and development activities.
