Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Crash

Chesapeake police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian early Monday morning, March 9. Officers responded to reports of a person struck by a vehicle, and the victim later died from their injuries.

Off-Duty Firefighter Stops House Fire

A home in the Great Bridge area was spared major damage thanks to the quick thinking of an off-duty Suffolk firefighter who lives nearby. On March 8, smoke was spotted coming from a house on Balladeer Court.

Before Chesapeake crews arrived, the firefighter reportedly entered the home, raised a ladder and used a garden hose to knock down flames coming from a second-floor window. When fire crews reached the scene, they found smoke but limited fire spread.

No serious injuries were reported, and officials say the fast action likely prevented far worse damage.

Sheriff’s Office Launches Hope Foundation

The Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office has announced the creation of a new charitable arm known as the Hope Foundation. The initiative is designed to support some of the city’s most vulnerable residents, including seniors recovering from crimes, youth and individuals with special needs.
