Fog Advisory, I-464 Closures and Abilities Pageant Lead Chesapeake Headlines
Chesapeake, VA – March 9, 2026 – Dense fog advisories, major I-464 ramp closures, and a weekend Abilities Pageant lead local headlines today.
It has been a busy few days across Chesapeake, with weather alerts, traffic impacts and a community celebration drawing attention.
Dense Fog Advisory Affects Local Waterways
A Dense Fog Advisory was issued over the weekend for portions of the Chesapeake Bay, including areas stretching from Smith Point to New Point Comfort. The advisory warned of visibility dropping to one nautical mile or less, creating hazardous conditions for boaters.
Mariners were urged to use caution, rely on navigation equipment and ensure running lights were active. While the advisory has since expired, the fog created challenging conditions for anyone on the water Saturday.
I-464 Ramp Closures This Week
Drivers should plan ahead as lane and ramp closures are underway along I-464 in Chesapeake. According to the latest regional traffic alert, the on-ramp from Route 17 north, also known as Dominion Boulevard, to I-464 north is scheduled for daytime closures from March 9 through March 14.
Closures may begin as early as mid-morning and last into the afternoon. The work is part of ongoing transportation improvements across Hampton Roads. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and watch for posted detours.
Abilities Pageant Celebrates Community
On a brighter note, the Chesapeake Abilities Pageant took place Sunday at the Chesapeake Conference Center. The annual event celebrates teens and adults with disabilities from across Hampton Roads.
Contestants participated in casual wear, evening wear, interview and talent segments, with one male and one female participant crowned. The pageant continues to serve as a meaningful platform to spotlight confidence, talent and community pride.
From shifting weather to roadwork and uplifting local events, Chesapeake residents are stepping into the new week with plenty to keep on their radar.
