215 Beltway Reopens After Police Investigation

Traffic is flowing again on the Northern 215 Beltway after a temporary shutdown Monday evening tied to a reported shooting.

Police said officers were dispatched around 6:40 p.m. after a driver called in reports of gunfire on the freeway. The incident prompted authorities to close part of the roadway while they investigated.

The shutdown diverted traffic for several hours, creating delays for commuters traveling between North Las Vegas and the northwest valley during peak evening drive time. By later in the night, the roadway had reopened.

Officials did not immediately release additional details about injuries or arrests as the investigation continued.

Wind, Rain Sweep Across the Valley

Blustery weather is also making headlines this week as back-to-back winter systems move through Southern Nevada.

Forecasters say residents in North Las Vegas can expect gusty winds, cooler temperatures and periods of valley rain. While snow is largely confined to higher elevations outside the Las Vegas Valley, the changing conditions are still affecting local travel.

Drivers are being urged to slow down and use caution, especially during early morning hours when roads may be slick. The unsettled pattern is expected to linger into midweek before drier conditions gradually return.

Daycare Provider Reports Cuts Amid State Payment Changes

In other local developments, a Las Vegas-area daycare provider says recent changes to how state childcare subsidy payments are distributed are creating financial strain.

The provider reported cutting staff hours and reducing services, citing delayed or adjusted reimbursements. For families in North Las Vegas who depend on subsidized childcare, the impact could extend beyond a single center if similar providers face the same challenges.

So far, state officials have not announced revisions to the payment process. Providers say they are seeking clarification in hopes of avoiding further disruptions for working families.
