Miami Moves Forward on Housing, Transit Upgrades as Heat Make History
Miami, FL – March 13, 2026 – City leaders advanced housing and transit upgrades as the Heat made NBA history and major projects moved ahead.
It’s been a busy week across Miami, with big moves at City Hall, a record-setting night at Kaseya Center, and major development milestones taking shape.
City Commission Combines Meetings, Advances Housing Funds
Miami’s City Commission met Thursday at City Hall after combining its March 12 and March 26 meetings into a single session.
Among the items on the agenda: a proposed allocation of $500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act program income to support housing initiatives in District 5. A portion of those funds would help cover rising construction costs for an infill home currently under construction in Liberty City.
The move is part of a broader push to keep neighborhood housing projects on track as building costs remain elevated.
County Eyes Transit Control System Upgrade
At the county level, commissioners are weighing a $6.2 million upgrade to the centralized system that runs Metrorail and Metromover control centers.
The proposal would modernize communications, safety, signage and control operations across 23 Metrorail stations and several additional facilities. Officials say upgrading the existing system is more cost-effective than replacing it entirely.
If approved, the improvements would strengthen reliability across two of Miami-Dade’s busiest transit systems.
Heat’s Adebayo Drops 83 Points
Meanwhile, sports fans are still buzzing after Bam Adebayo delivered an 83-point performance Tuesday night in a home win over the Washington Wizards.
The historic outing at Kaseya Center ranks as the second-highest single-game scoring total in NBA history. The milestone performance drew national attention and gave Miami one of its most unforgettable regular-season moments in years.
$880M West Little River Project Moves Closer
In development news, demolition is underway for an $880 million mixed-use project in West Little River known as The HueHub.
The project is expected to bring significant workforce and attainable housing options, along with retail and community space, to the neighborhood. Developers say it will be one of the first major local projects tied to the state’s Live Local Act incentives.
From housing investments to transit upgrades and headline-grabbing sports moments, Miami is showing no signs of slowing down this March.
