Paterson-Area Gas Eases; Diesel Averages $5.48, Up From Last Week
AAA’s Aug. 1 Bergen-Passaic check puts regular gas at $4.113 and diesel at $5.479, with diesel higher than last week despite a small daily decline.
Regular gasoline and diesel moved in different directions in the latest price check covering the Paterson area. Regular gas eased from both the previous day and the previous week, while diesel slipped slightly from Friday but remained higher than it was a week earlier.
AAA’s Aug. 1 Bergen-Passaic metro average puts regular gasoline at $4.113 per gallon. That is down 0.8 cents from the previous day and 3.7 cents from a week earlier. The short-term decline comes against a higher longer-term baseline: regular gas is 27.2 cents more expensive than it was one month ago and $1.042 higher than a year ago.
Diesel remains the bigger pressure point
Diesel is averaging $5.479 per gallon in the Bergen-Passaic metro area. The average is down 0.6 cents from the previous day, but up 2.5 cents from last week. Diesel is 51.0 cents higher than one month ago and $1.771 above the year-ago average.
That split matters for households and businesses serving Paterson. Gasoline costs are most visible to commuters, workers driving to job sites, households and weekend travelers. Diesel prices can put heavier pressure on trucking, delivery fleets, construction companies, landscapers, repair services, restaurants that rely on deliveries, and other operations that use commercial vehicles or equipment. Those are practical cost pressures, even when a business does not immediately change its customer prices.
What the numbers do — and do not — show
The AAA figures are a Bergen-Passaic metro average covering the Paterson area, not a guaranteed price at every station in Paterson. Individual pumps can vary based on location, competition, fuel grade, payment method and when a station last updated its price.
For local drivers, the takeaway is mixed. Regular gasoline has eased modestly over the past day and week, but it remains substantially more expensive than it was one month and one year ago. Diesel has also edged lower on the daily comparison, yet its weekly, monthly and yearly comparisons remain higher.
