The robbery occurred on February 15, 2025, when the victim, a New York Jets player, returned to his Morristown home. As he and his driver entered the driveway, a Volkswagen Taos with fictitious license plates blocked their path. Four masked individuals exited the vehicle, each armed with a handgun, and demanded valuables. The suspects stole the victim’s watch and wallet, as well as cash from the driver, before fleeing the scene in the Taos.
Investigation and Charges
Investigators traced electronic evidence linking Shaffer to the crime, indicating that the suspects had followed the victim from New York to Morristown. Shaffer was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of second-degree conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He is currently held at the Bergen County Correctional Facility on charges stemming from an unrelated criminal case in Passaic County and was ordered on February 2 to remain detained on the Morris County charges.
