Pickup truck knocks down FPL pole, crashes into home
Port St. Lucie police say a pickup struck an FPL utility pole and then crashed into the garage of a home on SE Morningside Boulevard on Monday afternoon. The downed pole briefly shut the street while crews secured live lines and cleared debris.
Officials reported minor injuries for the driver and limited structural damage to the house. Investigators noted no signs of impairment and suggested the crash may have been related to the driver’s age. Power and traffic have since been fully restored in the neighborhood.
Port St. Lucie man charged in violent Martin County beach attack
A 26-year-old Port St. Lucie man is jailed on a charge of attempted first-degree murder after deputies say he attacked a woman walking alone along the shoreline near Stuart and Tiger Shores beaches late Thursday night.
Investigators say the stranger allegedly grabbed the woman from behind, forced her into shallow surf and tried to hold her head underwater before she escaped and flagged down help. The suspect was arrested days later after making incriminating statements during a mental health crisis call in Port St. Lucie, according to arrest records.
The victim survived but suffered bruising and other injuries. The case has raised fresh concerns about safety on less-lit stretches of local beaches at night and the importance of calling 911 quickly when something feels wrong.
Teen in custody after fatal shooting in Fort Pierce
Just north of Port St. Lucie, St. Lucie County deputies are investigating a deadly shooting on Oleander Avenue in Fort Pierce early Monday. Responding units found an adult man shot; he was later pronounced dead.
Detectives say a juvenile suspect is now in custody and that early evidence points to an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the wider community. The sheriff’s office continues interviewing witnesses and processing the scene while offering condolences to the victim’s family.
The case adds to a string of recent violent incidents along the Treasure Coast, prompting renewed calls from law enforcement for residents to share tips and camera footage to help close investigations quickly.
