Rate Relief, Wind Advisory and Workforce Push Lead North Las Vegas Updates
North Las Vegas, NV – April 2, 2026 – NV Energy delays new rate charges as high winds prompt advisories and the city rolls out job and pool safety events.
Utility Rates: Demand Charge Delayed
Southern Nevada residents and small businesses will get more time before a new electricity billing structure takes effect. State utility regulators voted this week to postpone NV Energy’s proposed peak demand charge until Jan. 1.
The change would alter how some customers are billed based on their highest hour of energy use. The delay gives households and business owners in North Las Vegas additional time to review usage patterns and prepare for potential cost shifts later this year.
Wind Advisory in Effect
A Wind Advisory remains in place through Friday evening, with north winds between 25 and 35 mph and gusts up to 55 mph possible across the region.
Officials warn that strong gusts could cause isolated power outages, make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles and create hazardous conditions on area lakes. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and use caution on the roads.
Workforce: VA Employment Fair
The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is hosting its Spring 2026 Employment Fair in North Las Vegas this week, connecting veterans and job seekers with federal employment and vocational rehabilitation programs.
The event focuses on healthcare roles and support services, part of a broader workforce push as public agencies and medical providers continue hiring across the valley.
Public Health: April Pool’s Day
The City of North Las Vegas partnered with the Southern Nevada Drowning Prevention Coalition for its annual April Pool’s Day event at Silver Mesa Pool.
Fire crews staged mock water rescue scenarios while staff shared swim lesson information and water safety guidance ahead of the summer season. The city will offer swim programs throughout the summer at Silver Mesa Pool and Skyview Multi-Generational Center.
