South Blvd southbound closure, LYNX Blue Line single-track start July 13
Charlotte NC – Southbound South Blvd closes July 13–Aug. 14 between Clanton and Old Pineville; Blue Line single-tracks July 13–Aug. 9 near Scaleybark.
Charlotte NC is about to see two coordinated disruptions tied to drainage work near the Blue Line: South Boulevard’s southbound lanes will close starting Monday, July 13, and the Blue Line will run single-track with phased rider-boarding guidance near Scaleybark Station.
City of Charlotte and Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) notices say the changes begin Monday and run through early to mid-August.
Road impacts: South Blvd southbound lanes close July 13–Aug. 14
Beginning Monday, July 13, the City of Charlotte says the work will close the southbound lanes of South Boulevard between Clanton Road and Old Pineville Road for about four weeks. The timing window listed by the City runs Monday, July 13 through Friday, Aug. 14, 2026.
For drivers, the City’s posted detour for the closure area routes travelers from Clanton Road to Tryon Street to Woodlawn Road and back to South Boulevard. The City also notes that access to businesses in the closure area will be maintained via alternate routes.
Because construction can affect daily conditions, the City points readers to CDOT’s interactive street-closure map and updates that are pushed into Waze, and reminds drivers to follow posted signage in the corridor.
Transit impacts: Blue Line single-tracking in two phases near Scaleybark
At the same Blue Line crossing south of Scaleybark Station on South Boulevard, CATS will adjust Blue Line operations to support single-track service. The City notice says Blue Line trains will single-track between Archdale, Tyvola, Woodlawn and Scaleybark stations.
CATS says the single-track period happens in two phases with different boarding guidance:
- July 13 to July 26: riders should board trains from the northbound platform at the affected stations, and directional signage will be placed.
- July 27 to Aug. 9: riders should board trains from the southbound platform at those stations, with directional signage to guide passengers.
In both windows, CATS tells riders to reach out to customer service if they need support or help navigating the changes.
Why this is happening: drainage improvements along the Blue Line south of Scaleybark
The road and rail disruptions are tied to drainage improvements at/near the Blue Line crossing south of Scaleybark Station. A City Legistar background summary for the Scaleybark Station Drainage Repairs project says the work is intended to improve drainage and reduce flooding along the Blue Line south of Scaleybark Station.
What to watch next
Even though the published windows are specific, the practical travel experience can shift as crews sequence work along the corridor. Drivers and riders planning trips over the coming weeks should check the City and CATS updates and rely on posted detour signage and platform-directional signs at the affected stations.
