Virginia Beach voters have one day left to vote in Aug. 4 primary

Virginia Beach voters who missed the final early-voting day Saturday must vote at their assigned precinct Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the 2026 primary. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voters who are in line by 7 p.m. may cast a ballot. Before leaving home, voters should verify their assigned polling place through the Virginia Department of Elections voter lookup.

What is on the ballot

The Virginia Beach ballot includes a Republican primary for the U.S. Senate and a Democratic primary for U.S. House District 2.

These contests select party nominees for the November general election. They are not general-election outcomes, and there are no state or local races on the Aug. 4 primary ballot.

All eligible Virginia Beach voters may participate because the Senate contest is statewide and the 2nd Congressional District covers the city. Virginia voters do not register by party, but each voter must choose one party ballot at check-in and may participate in only one party’s primary.

Check the precinct before voting

Polling-place information is precinct-specific. Voters should confirm their location through the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal rather than relying only on a general city address.

Precinct 75 voters who normally vote at Lynnhaven Colony Congregational Church must instead vote at John B. Dey Elementary School, 1900 N. Great Neck Road. The change is temporary and applies only to the Aug. 4 primary.

Precinct 49 voters who are assigned to John B. Dey Elementary School are not affected by the Precinct 75 relocation. Signs and election officials will be available to direct voters inside the school.

The Voter Registrar’s Office at 500 Studio Drive is not an Election Day polling location. Voters should go to their assigned precinct.

What to bring

Virginia requires voters to provide an acceptable form of identification or complete the applicable ID-confirmation process before casting a ballot. Examples of accepted identification include a Virginia driver’s license or ID card, U.S. military ID, U.S. passport or passport card, and a qualifying photo student ID.

Same-day registration remains available on Election Day through a provisional ballot. The local electoral board must review the registration application and provisional ballot before the vote is counted.

Absentee-ballot deadline

Voters returning an absentee ballot by mail must account for both the postmark and delivery deadlines. Under the city’s guidance, the ballot must be postmarked by Election Day, Aug. 4, and received by the registrar no later than noon Friday, Aug. 7.

Mailing a ballot by Aug. 4 alone does not guarantee that it will be timely. The ballot must also reach election officials by the noon Aug. 7 deadline.
