Georgia rises to No. 1 in AP poll after Alabama win
Georgia moved to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 on Oct. 11, one day after beating Alabama 20–17 in Tuscaloosa. The Bulldogs received 66 first-place votes from 70 voters and 1,745 points.
Kicker Peyton Woodring made a 23-yard field goal with 5:25 remaining to provide the winning points. Georgia entered the game ranked No. 2 and Alabama No. 6. After the win, Georgia was 6–0 overall and 4–0 in the Southeastern Conference; Alabama was 5–1 overall and 3–1 in the SEC.
In the Oct. 11 poll, Notre Dame ranked second with 1,630 points, 115 behind Georgia. Alabama remained No. 6, while Texas fell from No. 1 to No. 7 after losing to Oklahoma. The AP Top 25 is a media poll separate from the College Football Playoff selection ranking; the AP position does not itself determine a playoff berth or seed.
Georgia is scheduled to host Auburn on Oct. 17 in Athens.
