Charro Days Festival Unveils Official 2026 Poster

The 89th annual Charro Days festival is set to begin on February 21, 2026, with a free public street dance, the Baile del Sol, at Charro Days headquarters, 455 E. Elizabeth St. downtown. The festival will feature various events, including the Noche Mexicana dance on February 26 at the Texas Southmost College Jacob Brown Auditorium, the Brownsville Independent School District Children’s Parade on February 26, the Illuminated Parade on February 27, the Color Guard Parade and Grande International Parade on February 28, and a Costume Ball Dance at Jacob Brown on February 28. The Charro Days Carnival will run from February 26 to March 8.

The inaugural Charro Days celebration was held in February 1938 and featured parades, dances, races, a bullfight, a rodeo, a concert, a grand ball, and “Noche Mexicana.” Locals and visitors dressed in traditional elaborate costumes honoring the “charro” — the “dashing Mexican gentleman cowboy.”

Charro Days President Henry LeVrier emphasized the festival’s significance, stating, “It’s about friendship. It’s about tradition. It’s about culture. And it’s very important also to the economy.” He added, “We are lifting the spirits of the community and we’re also helping to stimulate the economy. It’s very exciting, because people look forward to it.”
