Anchorage gas and diesel ease again, but prices stay well above U.S. averages
Anchorage AK Gas & Diesel Watch – AAA’s June 20 check shows Anchorage gas and diesel eased again, but both still sit far above U.S. benchmarks.
Anchorage drivers got a little relief in AAA’s June 20 price check. Regular gasoline averaged $5.003 a gallon in the Anchorage metro, while diesel averaged $5.588. Both were lower than yesterday, last week, and last month, and diesel slipped a bit faster over the week than regular gas did.
Regular gas fell 1.3 cents from the day before, 8.4 cents from a week earlier, and 23.9 cents from a month ago. Diesel dropped 2.9 cents day over day, 11.4 cents week over week, and 30.1 cents from a month ago. The declines are real, but they are modest rather than dramatic.
Compared with a year ago, Anchorage is still paying much more at the pump. Regular gas is about $1.39 higher than it was a year earlier, and diesel is about $1.85 higher. That matters for households that fill up often, but it matters even more for contractors, delivery drivers, food-service fleets, and other businesses that burn fuel quickly.
This is an Anchorage metro update, not an Alaska-wide average. AAA’s statewide Alaska row shows regular at $5.011 and diesel at $5.573, which means Anchorage regular is just below the state figure while Anchorage diesel is slightly above it. For a national benchmark, AAA’s latest U.S. regular average was $3.951, and the Energy Information Administration’s latest U.S. on-highway diesel benchmark was $5.059.
That gap is the part local readers will feel most. A small drop can help around the edges, especially for commuters, summer road-trippers, and small businesses watching fuel bills line by line. But Anchorage remains in a high-price range by national standards, so the latest move is more of a steady easing than a full reset.
Alaska’s News Source reported that many Anchorage stations were under $5 a gallon, a reminder that neighborhood prices can vary even when the metro average stays elevated. Share the highest and lowest prices you are seeing around Anchorage.
