Anchorage gas and diesel ease, but stay well above the U.S. average
Anchorage AK Gas & Diesel Watch – AAA’s June 21 check shows regular at $4.997 and diesel at $5.575, both down again but still above U.S. averages.
Anchorage pump prices keep edging lower
Anchorage drivers are seeing a little more relief at the pump. AAA’s June 21 check shows regular gas in the Anchorage metro at $4.997 a gallon and diesel at $5.575.
Regular fuel is down from $5.003 yesterday, $5.093 a week ago, and $5.239 a month ago. Diesel is also lower, slipping from $5.588 yesterday, $5.688 a week ago, and $5.888 a month ago. That is the direction commuters and delivery operators want to see, even if the move is still modest from one check to the next.
The year-over-year comparison is still unfavorable. Anchorage regular was $3.622 a year ago, and diesel was $3.782. So even with the recent easing, both grades are more expensive than they were at this time last summer.
The Anchorage metro row also gives a clearer picture of how local prices stack up. Regular gas is just below the Alaska average of $5.006, while diesel is slightly above the state average of $5.547. Against the U.S. averages of $3.938 for regular and $5.040 for diesel, Anchorage remains a high-cost fuel market. The gap is especially noticeable for diesel, which tends to hit harder for contractors, fleet operators, restaurants with delivery needs, and small businesses that keep vehicles on the road all week.
The latest EIA update, released June 16, points in the same general direction nationally, with U.S. gasoline and diesel prices still easing week to week. For Anchorage households, the practical effect is simple: a few cents up or down can change the weekly budget, especially in a city where filling the tank already costs more than most of the country.
For residents planning summer errands, weekend drives, job-site runs, airport trips, or vacation travel, the main takeaway is that the trend is favorable, but fuel is still expensive. Small price differences between stations can still matter in a $5-plus market, so it is worth comparing before topping off.
