Bridgeport voters face Aug. 11 primary as early voting begins Monday
Early voting for Bridgeportโs Aug. 11, 2026 state, district and municipal primary begins Monday, Aug. 3, giving eligible voters seven days to cast ballots before Primary Day.
Early voting will be available at the Margaret Morton Government Center, 999 Broad St., from Aug. 3 through Aug. 9. The Bridgeport registrar also says curbside voting will be available at the government center.
Early-voting hours and location
The cityโs schedule is:
- Monday, Aug. 3: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 4: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Wednesday, Aug. 5: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Thursday, Aug. 6: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Friday, Aug. 7: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, Aug. 8: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday, Aug. 9: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Voters should confirm their registration, party eligibility and voting instructions with the Bridgeport registrar before going to the site, particularly if they recently moved or changed party affiliation.
Primary Day is Aug. 11
Primary Day is Tuesday, Aug. 11. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters should use Bridgeportโs official election information and voter-registration resources to confirm their polling details before Election Day.
The Connecticut Secretary of the Stateโs 2026 primary sample-ballot page lists Bridgeport and provides a combined Democratic and Republican sample-ballot entry. The Connecticut Post has also published a candidate and contest guide for broader context. Voters should rely on the official sample ballot and registrar instructions for the final ballot information.
Several registration and enrollment deadlines have passed
July 24 was Bridgeportโs mail-in registration and party-enrollment cutoff for the primary, and that date had passed as of Aug. 1. The cityโs election page also lists July 24 as the mandatory registration session date for the primary. It says some applications and party-enrollment requests may still be submitted in person to the registrars by noon Monday, Aug. 10, under the applicable state rules.
Bridgeportโs separate primary enrollment session was held July 28. That session is also past.
Party affiliation matters in Connecticut primaries. Only registered members of a political party may vote in that partyโs primary. The Secretary of the Stateโs Office said unaffiliated voters who wanted to vote during early voting had to enroll in a party by noon Friday, July 31. That deadline had passed as of Aug. 1.
Unaffiliated voters planning to vote on Primary Day may enroll in a party by noon Monday, Aug. 10, according to the state and Bridgeport election information. Because eligibility can depend on a voterโs registration record and the method used to submit an application, voters should contact the registrars for current, voter-specific instructions.
Early voting, absentee ballots and same-day registration are different
Early voting means appearing in person at the designated early-voting location during the Aug. 3-9 schedule. It is separate from absentee voting, which requires an absentee-ballot application and follows a different ballot-return process. Bridgeport lists printed absentee ballots for the primary as available beginning July 21.
Same-day registration is a separate procedure and is not available for this primary. Bridgeportโs registrar identifies same-day registration as a procedure for general elections only. When it applies, registration and voting take place at a designated same-day-registration location rather than at a voterโs regular polling place.
Where to check before voting
Residents should check the Bridgeport registrarโs election pages and the Connecticut Secretary of the Stateโs voter-information resources before voting. Those official sources provide the cityโs early-voting schedule, registration and enrollment instructions, absentee-ballot information and sample-ballot materials.
