Dense Fog Advisory, I-464 Closures and Abilities Pageant Highlight Chesapeake Weekend
Chesapeake, VA – March 7, 2026 – Dense fog blankets waterways, I-464 ramps close for work, and the Abilities Pageant returns Sunday.
Chesapeake is heading into the weekend with a mix of weather concerns, road construction impacts and a heartwarming community event on the calendar.
Dense Fog Advisory Along Local Waterways
A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect Saturday morning for portions of the Chesapeake Bay and the James River. Impacted areas include waters near Little Creek and the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
Forecasters warn that visibility could drop sharply at times, creating hazardous conditions for boaters and anyone navigating local waterways. Limited sight distance can make it difficult to spot other vessels, channel markers or shoreline hazards.
Officials are urging mariners to slow down, use proper navigation lights and sound signals, and proceed with caution until the fog lifts. Conditions are expected to improve later this morning, but early hours could remain challenging on the water.
I-464 Ramp Closures Continue Through March 7
On land, drivers in Chesapeake should continue planning around construction activity along I-464.
The northbound on-ramp from Route 17, also known as Dominion Boulevard, to I-464 north is scheduled for periodic closures through March 7. While some impacts have taken place overnight earlier in the week, additional closures are occurring during daytime hours.
Motorists traveling through the corridor should allow extra travel time and pay close attention to posted detour signs and lane shift warnings. With weekend traffic added to construction patterns, short delays are possible.
Abilities Pageant Returns Sunday
Looking ahead to Sunday, the Chesapeake Abilities Pageant will bring a celebratory note to the weekend.
The annual event is set for Sunday, March 8, at 4 p.m. at the Chesapeake Conference Center. The pageant highlights teens and adults with disabilities from across Hampton Roads.
Participants take part in interview, casual wear, evening wear and talent segments. At the end of the program, one female and one male contestant are crowned.
Organizers describe the pageant as a showcase of confidence, talent and community pride. For many families, it has become a meaningful tradition that emphasizes inclusion and achievement while drawing strong local support.
From foggy waterways to traffic shifts and a spotlight on local talent, Chesapeake residents have plenty to keep in mind as the weekend unfolds.
