Henderson Daily Briefing: New Casino Greenlit, Eviction Help Expands, Police Probe Homicide
Henderson, NV — February 17, 2026 — A major new resort project, expanded eviction protections for vulnerable residents, and an active homicide investigation top today’s local news.
Inspirada casino-resort wins unanimous city approval
A large new casino-resort in the Inspirada area has cleared a key hurdle after Henderson’s mayor and city council voted unanimously to approve land and zoning changes for the project.
The Inspirada Station development is planned to include roughly 80,000 square feet of gaming space, about 600 hotel rooms, multiple restaurants and a food court, along with family-oriented amenities such as a bowling alley and movie theater.
Developers told city leaders the project is expected to generate thousands of construction-related job years and around 1,700 permanent positions once fully open. They also projected more than $25 million a year in tax revenue and hundreds of millions in broader economic impact for the surrounding community.
Plans call for working with city staff to connect nearby trails to the site, tying the new resort into Henderson’s growing network of paths and parks.
Eviction diversion program expands to Henderson courts
An expanded Eviction Diversion Program is now in effect at the Henderson Justice Court, offering additional support to seniors and people with disabilities who are at risk of losing their homes.
The program, backed by recent state funding, brings together Clark County social services, legal aid providers and the local courts to intervene early in eviction cases. Eligible tenants and landlords can be connected with rental assistance, mediation and long-term housing stability planning before an eviction is finalized.
Officials say the expansion is designed to prevent unnecessary displacement, particularly for residents on fixed incomes who may struggle to recover if pushed into homelessness.
Police investigate deadly shooting as second homicide of year
Henderson police are investigating a weekend shooting that left one man dead and another seriously wounded near Lake Mead Parkway and Warm Springs Road.
Officers responding around 1 a.m. found two young men with gunshot wounds after reports of gunfire at a gathering on Center Street. A 22-year-old man died at the scene, while a 23-year-old man was taken to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators say multiple people at the party were seen with firearms just before shots were fired. As of the latest update, no suspect description had been released, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Henderson police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
Looking ahead
The Inspirada resort plans and the court-based eviction initiative both signal continued growth and policy focus in Henderson, even as police work to keep pace with serious crime. Residents can expect more public discussion as the casino project moves into the construction phase and as local agencies report on the impact of the expanded eviction program.
