Henderson Daily Local Headlines: Lake Mead Parkway Study, Calico Ridge Growth, I-11 Brush Fire
Henderson, NV – February 25, 2026 – Lake Mead Pkwy corridor study input meeting is Feb 26; crews contained a brush fire near I-11; Jurassic Knight hits March 1.
Wednesday is shaping up as a practical, nuts-and-bolts day in Henderson: road planning is moving forward, a long-quiet retail center is adding new tenants, and firefighters wrapped up a brief but disruptive brush fire response near a major interchange.
Lake Mead Parkway: city asks for input on a busy corridor
The City of Henderson is collecting public feedback on a Lake Mead Parkway corridor study covering the stretch from the I-11 interchange to Lorin C. Williams Parkway. The goal is to improve safety and mobility while planning for growth in areas like Cadence, Lake Las Vegas and nearby development sites.
An in-person community workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the America First Center Lookout Room, 222 Water St. The city is also running an online survey open through March 15.
Monument at Calico Ridge: more storefronts on the way
A shopping center off Lake Mead Parkway between Cadence and Lake Las Vegas is preparing to add four new businesses after years of slow activity following the 2008 housing downturn. Plans described this week include a barbershop expected around April or May, a golf cart sales retailer, an indoor golf simulator concept with a restaurant and bar, and a liquor store focused on higher-end wines and local beer.
Current tenants say visibility and awareness remain hurdles, especially for drivers who turn into nearby neighborhoods before reaching the site. Several businesses are also watching nearby homebuilding projects that could eventually bring more regular traffic past the center.
I-11 and Sunset Road: brush fire briefly closes lanes
Early Tuesday, Henderson firefighters responded to a brush fire near the I-11 on-ramp at Sunset Road. Crews estimated the fire at about an acre, with no injuries reported and no threat to surrounding areas. Southbound lanes were blocked for several hours during the response, then reopened by mid-morning.
