Diesel reaches $5.402
AAA listed the Chicago metro diesel average at $5.402 per gallon, up 1.4 cents from the previous day and 16.9 cents from a week earlier. Diesel’s weekly increase was larger than regular gasoline’s in cents per gallon.
That distinction matters for delivery drivers, contractors, landscapers, service businesses and commercial fleets that use diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Higher diesel costs can add pressure to route expenses, materials deliveries, service calls and other fuel-intensive work.
Naperville station shows a different price picture
A 7-Eleven/Speedway station at 1712 West Ogden Avenue in Naperville listed regular gasoline at $4.249 per gallon and diesel at $5.999 per gallon. The station page said its gas prices had been updated within 24 hours, so those figures should be treated as posted station listings rather than real-time verified pump observations.
The comparison shows why a regional average should not be read as the price at every Naperville pump. At that location, the listed regular-gas price was below the Chicago metro average, while the listed diesel price was above it. One station does not establish a citywide pattern, but it illustrates the differences local shoppers may encounter.
Naperville’s local fuel-tax context
Naperville collects a local gas tax of four cents per gallon. The city says the money is allocated to its Road and Bridge Fund and helps support annual street resurfacing and reconstruction. That tax is local transportation-funding context, not an explanation for the daily or weekly regional price movement reported by AAA.
