Oceanfront Shooting Injures Six

Virginia Beach police are investigating a shooting that left six people injured Saturday night at the Oceanfront.

Officers on patrol heard gunfire around 9:50 p.m. near the 1800 block of Atlantic Avenue. Five victims were found at the scene with gunshot wounds, and a sixth later arrived at a hospital. Police said the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Investigators say two men appeared to be shooting at each other when bystanders were struck. Both suspects ran from the area and had not been located as of Sunday. Additional officers had already been assigned to the Resort Area due to warm weather and expected crowds.

Dozens of Juveniles Detained in Curfew Operation

In a separate Oceanfront enforcement effort, officers detained 37 juveniles during an overnight curfew operation that began late Saturday.

Most of the minors were released to their parents or guardians with warnings. However, three were arrested, including two found carrying firearms. The operation focused on unaccompanied minors in violation of the city’s overnight curfew rules in the resort district.

Police say the effort is part of ongoing steps to address safety concerns as larger seasonal crowds return to the beachfront.

DUI Checkpoint Nets Seven Arrests

Elsewhere in the city, a recent traffic blitz and DUI checkpoint in the 3rd Precinct led to seven arrests.

Officers conducted dozens of traffic stops, issued nearly 100 summonses and made four DUI arrests during a checkpoint on First Court Road. Authorities also reported arrests tied to outstanding felony warrants and recovered a firearm during one stop.

Police say enforcement operations like these are designed to reduce impaired driving and target repeat offenders.
