Orem-Area Gas and Diesel Prices Ease, Stay Above Last Week

Regular gas and diesel prices both eased in the latest Provo-Orem price check, but the short-term decline has not erased larger increases from the previous week and month.

AAA’s August 2, 2026, data put the Provo-Orem metro average at $4.232 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.230 for diesel. Regular gas was down 1.4 cents from the previous day’s average, while diesel fell 1.2 cents.

Both fuels are lower than the July 29 check

Compared with the July 29 fuel-price check, regular gas was down 4.1 cents and diesel was down 5.9 cents.

That easing may provide some relief at the pump, but it remains small compared with the broader increases recorded by AAA. Regular gas was still 11.0 cents higher than a week earlier and 48.8 cents higher than a month earlier. Diesel was 19.0 cents higher than a week earlier and 60.1 cents higher than a month earlier.

Diesel remains important for commercial users

The diesel figure matters beyond individual pickup owners. Contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, service companies and other commercial users often have fewer ways to avoid fuel purchases, so sustained increases can put pressure on operating budgets and the prices charged for work or deliveries.

For households, the effect depends on commuting distance, vehicle fuel economy and how often a family drives. Weekend travelers may notice the difference most when filling a larger vehicle or making a longer trip, even though the latest daily movement was downward.

One Orem station shows why prices can vary

AAA’s Provo-Orem numbers are metro averages, not an Orem-only citywide price. The 7-Eleven at 31 W. 800 North in Orem listed regular gas at $4.249 per gallon and diesel at $5.199 when its station page was checked. The listing says gas prices are updated within 24 hours.

That single-station snapshot should not be treated as the Orem average, but it shows why drivers may see different prices from one location to another. Checking several stations before filling up can matter for commuters, families, contractors and delivery drivers managing fuel costs.
