Oxnard Voters Will Decide on Half-Cent Sales Tax Renewal

Oxnard voters will decide Nov. 3, 2026, whether to renew an existing one-half-cent sales tax that the city says generates approximately $20 million annually. The measure would continue the current tax rate rather than increase it.

The City Council adopted Resolution No. 16071 on June 16, ordering the measure’s placement on the general municipal election ballot. The ballot materials say the revenue would support public safety, 911 emergency response and fire protection, street and pothole repairs, homelessness services, programs for vulnerable seniors, anti-gang and after-school programs, and other general city services.

If approved, the measure would provide the estimated annual revenue until voters end it. The materials also require oversight, audits and public disclosure of spending, and state that the funds would be used for Oxnard. The ordinance would take effect only if voters approve the measure, so the council’s action places the question before voters but does not itself extend the tax.

The ballot title, ordinance and City Attorney’s impartial analysis became available for public review June 17 through the Oxnard City Clerk’s Office. The next decision point is the Nov. 3 election.
