Reno Gas and Diesel Ease Slightly, Stay Well Above Last Year

Reno metro fuel prices eased slightly in the latest AAA price check on July 31, 2026, but both regular gasoline and diesel remained substantially more expensive than a year earlier.

AAA listed the Reno metro average for regular gasoline at $5.166 per gallon, down 0.7 cents from the previous day’s $5.173 average. Diesel averaged $5.845 per gallon, down 0.9 cents from $5.854.

Regular gasoline remains higher across every comparison window

Regular gasoline was 5.9 cents higher than one week earlier and 28.5 cents higher than one month earlier. Compared with the same period last year, the Reno metro average was up $1.186 per gallon.

The small daily decline does not erase the larger increase built into transportation costs. A difference of less than a cent may matter when drivers are deciding when to fill up, but the year-over-year change is more significant for people who commute frequently or drive long distances.

Diesel also eased for the day but rose more over the year

Diesel followed the same short-term pattern. The Reno metro average fell 0.9 cents from the prior day while remaining 11.5 cents higher than one week ago and 16.2 cents higher than one month ago. Year over year, diesel was up $1.616 per gallon.

That increase is larger than regular gasoline’s year-over-year rise. The difference can be especially important for delivery operators, contractors, equipment users, service businesses and other companies that rely on diesel-powered vehicles.

What higher fuel averages may mean locally

Metro averages do not represent every station. Pump prices can vary by neighborhood, brand, payment method and fuel grade. Still, elevated averages can add pressure for commuters, households with multiple vehicles and weekend travelers leaving the Reno area.

Fuel-intensive businesses may also face higher operating costs. Delivery companies, restaurants receiving regular supply shipments, contractors traveling between job sites and service businesses with mobile crews may respond in different ways, including absorbing costs, passing some costs to customers or reducing unnecessary trips. The effect will not be identical for every business or household.
