Earlier curfew for unaccompanied minors starts March 19

Virginia Beach is moving its curfew for unaccompanied minors up by an hour. Starting March 19, anyone under 18 who is out alone will be expected to be off the streets between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

City officials say the change is aimed at reducing late-night incidents involving minors and improving overall public safety. Violations may be treated as a Class 4 misdemeanor, and the city has identified pickup locations where a parent or responsible adult may be required to retrieve a minor who is out past curfew.

In a major local court update, prosecutors announced that Javon Lamonte Pollard, 21, was sentenced in a Virginia Beach case involving first-degree murder and related charges tied to an attempted robbery. The sentence totals 78 years, with 38 years suspended, leaving 40 years to serve.

The case description released by prosecutors outlines a 2024 incident in Virginia Beach in which the victim was shot during an attempted robbery, followed by a getaway. Officials also noted a co-defendant has already been found guilty and is scheduled for sentencing later this spring.

Police: search warrant nets drugs and a firearm

Virginia Beach police say a February 20 search warrant in the 700 block of Seahawk Circle led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man accused of operating an illegal marijuana distribution business. Investigators reported seizing large quantities of marijuana and THC products, along with psilocybin mushrooms and a firearm.

Police said the man faces multiple felony charges. As with all cases, the allegations remain accusations unless proven in court.

On the water: small craft conditions through Wednesday evening

Boaters also saw a Small Craft Advisory posted for nearby coastal waters, citing hazardous conditions for smaller vessels. The alert cited gusty winds and elevated seas, with guidance for inexperienced mariners to avoid navigating in these conditions.
